Hijack 1971 (Korean: 하이재킹; lit. Hijacking) is a 2024 South Korean disaster film written by Kim Kyeong-chan and directed by Kim Seong-han, starring Ha Jung-woo, Yeo Jin-goo, Sung Dong-il and Chae Soo-bin. The film is based on the hijack attempt of a Korean Air F27 airliner in 1971. It was released theatrically on June 21, 2024.^[3]^[4]

Plot

In the winter of 1971, Sokcho Airport passenger plane pilot Gyu-Sik and copilot Tae-in take a flight to Gimpo, Seoul. After following take off procedures from the flight attendants, an improvised explosive device detonates, causing terror and confusion among all on board. Due to the explosion, Gyu-Sik, loses sight in one eye, and Tae-In finds himself in a desperate situation in an increasingly chaotic environment.

Yong-dae, who hatched the hijacking plot, takes control of the cockpit and threatens to take the plane to North Korea. What follows is a harrowing tale of bravery and sacrifice, as well as a exposé of the crew and the hijacker.

Cast

Ha Jung-woo as Tae-in, the first officer of a civilian airliner. The motif is Park Wan-gyu, who was the first officer at the time of the actual incident.^[5]
Yeo Jin-goo as Yong-dae, a civilian airliner hijacker. The motif is Kim Sang-tae, the terrorist who caused the actual incident.^[6]
